What Do My Lab Reports Suggest?

I had been feeling some high to mid left flank pain for about a week or two and decided to get some labs done. The first blood work was 7 days prior to the second blood work. I saw that on the first lab everything was good but on the second lab i had an mpv drop and my monocytes raised. I am scared, what could this mean? Should i be worried? I did some research and the scary Cancer word is everywhere! Please advice! Also, the pain is gone. Thank you!!
First lab ( everything under good ranges)
WBC 6.8
RBC 4.48
MPV 9.5
MONOCYTES 7.6
MONOCYTE ABS 0.52
Second lab ( everything else is good)
WBC 6.1
RBC 4.03
MPV 7.4 (low, lab ranges 7.7- 13.2%)
MONOCYTES 11% (high, lab ranges 1-10%)
Labs were done in two different places.
Absolutely nothing to worry about!
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
having flank pain for a week or so is a good reason to visit a doctor but is a bad reason to worry that much. It is a common and - most of the times - benign symptom. Yes, it would be possible for renal cancer (for example) to present with flank pain, but it would be extremely unlikely in your case judging from your description.
The MPV value that troubled you is something a doctor may consider when the platelet count is abnormal. You mentioned that your count was OK so there is no reason to even look at the MPV. The MPV has to do with platelet production and is no reason to worry for cancer!
Finally, the monocytes are not that many as an absolute number. This is no reason to worry for that as well.
Since you're fine now, you'd better just forget the results.
I hope I've addressed your concerns!
If you need further information, please ask!
Kind Regards!

How are you?
First things first, thank you so much for the peace of mind you have just given me!
I saw a nephorologist yesterday and he says the kidneys are working fine!
So my only concern was the monocytes and the mpv count, however my synptoms are gone and i feel fine, all that is left is the anxiety over this. So i should just forget about it and just wait for my next yearly physical or should i further investigate? Also, i had just had a heavy workout the night before the second labsand have a back injury, could that inflammation and stress have elevated the monocytes from a week to another ?
It doesn't matter!

Hello,
As I already told you, there is absolutely no reason to worry about. The MPV is of limited value. Most doctors never look at it! You don't have to investigate it. If you're too worried you can do a follow-up test but I wouldn't recommend it.
Inflammation definitely has to do with complete blood count results. The monocytes are usually higher during the course of viral illnesses (the usual scenario). Of course you'll find many intimidating diagnoses if you look around on the internet, but I suggest you don't. Your absolute monocyte number is just fine and you're well. If you do another test, you'll see that all counts would be different. Not a lot different probably but still different. Just remember this last - but of outmost importance - parameter. You feel well! Don't let a laboratory result disturb your peace of mind for no reason!
Kind Regards!

Thanks!
