Question: I have an ALT of 24 and an AST of 33. My lipid counts are HDL 53, LDL 81 and Triglycerides 78. I like to drink wine occasionally. Is that ok? I am vegan, and only drink organic wines.

Brief Answer:
Levels normal. Moderate drinking advised. Keep a dietary chart.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Your liver function tests are all in healthy range and nothing to worry about. However drinking alcohol should be moderate and in limits which you already follow is advised. Upto one drink or two in a day in advised for you. Idealy one drink is equal to
Beer: 12 fluid ounces (355 milliliters)
Wine: 5 fluid ounces (148 milliliters)
Distilled spirits (80 proof): 1.5 fluid ounces (44 milliliters)

maintain a food diary and talk to a nutritionist and let them devise you a plan for foods rich in vitamins like b 12 and all other supplements which are mostly provided by animal food sources like meat etc and should be replenished by some vegan diet fortified with B 12 and supplements like almond milk, soymilk, tempeh, vegan mayonnaise etc.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

I am curious about the ALT/AST ratio. It is said it should be 2/1, but mine is not. Aside from abstaining from alcohol is there anything else I can do to lower my AST?

Will drinking coffee elevate my AST count?

Brief Answer:
normal values

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

There is no such thing as AST to ALT ratio when the levels are in a normal reference range. Your levels are perfectly normal and you have nothing to worry about.

I hope it helps.
