Question: i have stage 4 colon cancer that has mestathized to my liver, at my dr appt. yesterday , hospice was suggested but which i refused. i know without knowing my history its impossible to give a definate answer but i would like to see about other options for which my dr is not open to. I am including a copy of my most recent ct scan, a copy of my most recent dr. visit, and a copy of my most recent lab work, and current diagnoses. What i would really like to know , is if you were in my shoes , what would you do? Is my dr right , do i really have less than 6 months to live? Thank you so much, and honestly i respect my drs advice ,i would just like a unbiased opionen. thank you

Brief Answer:
You have nothing more to lose. Live it to the fullest.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand the dismal situation that you are in. When a cell starts divinding uncontrollably, it is called cancer. In the first stage it is still restricted to the respective organ and no spread has occurred. If surgically excised during this stage cancer is 100% curable and the offending cells are completely eliminated. But if spread has already occurred, especially in case of metastasis where distant spread has occurred, 100% of the offending cells can never be identified or eliminated and treatment merely buys you some time. But the ultimate outcome remains the same. When and how the end will come,is not predictable and 6 month is a rough estimate with no definite basis. In reality it could vary significantly.

If I were in your shoes, I would not fight it. I would accept the fact that the days are numbered. In such a scenario I would consider these days the most precious ones and would live my life to the fullest, fulfill whatever unfulfilled dreams I can, enjoy the relationships I most cherish in life. With the death near, you now have nothing to lose as nothing worse can happen. So, you have full freedom to enjoy the remaining days. Make them meaningful. Make them count. Instead of seeking support, be the support for your near and dear ones. Your motivation will inspire them to take a new look at life. All this you can not do if you are in a hospice and hence I would not recommend that. I do not say your doctor is wrong. It is just another approach.

Feel free to write back and I am there by your side. All you have to do is to reach out.
