What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?
Question: Hi Doc,
Attached are the test reports of my mother aged 40. She has been lately feeling sleepless and execessive sweating followed by urge to drink more and more water. Sleepless is particularly due to sweating and thirstyness. She has also low BP for which she takes the medicine Amoldipine atenolol.
She eats rice with curries for lunch and dinner amd different south XXXXXXX foods for breakfast. Is eating fruits recommended from now on, if yes which ones?
Please Assist us with further details and the diet she need to follow.

First, the symptoms of excessive thirst and recurrent drinking of water are highly suggestive of diabetes mellitus. Your reports seem to suggest as much. Both FBS, PPBS are high. In fact, the doctor's prescription includes medicines for diabetes. I'd recommend that you initiate them.
I will not suggest fruits at the moment. Most fruits are sugary. Eating them will only increase her sugars. Wait till her sugars return to normal. Then fruits can be initiated at a later date. As for the diet, a low cholesterol and low sugar diet should be initiated. Loss of weight and moderate physical exercise will further help control the sugars.
Also, I think that you have misquoted her disease. I think she would have high BP. Starting medicines amlodipine and atenolol suggests as much. Maybe the BP has become low after medications. The message doesn't state the exact BP. Meet your regular doctor so that BP can be kept in the normal range. Low BP has deleterious effects, just like high BP.
I might also add that her reports are suggestive of severe urine infection. Her TLC is also low. I would suggest admission to a hospital in view of UTI with uncontrolled sugars. She may need appropriate antibiotic coverage and sugar control. So please do discuss this with your doctor as well.
The reports also suggest high cholesterol. This may be secondary to uncontrolled diabetes. Initiation of statins like atorvastatin will help here.
