What Do My Lab Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: Hello, I just received some annual lab results and what do the following mean:
In October 2014 I had a result of "Bacteria Few/hpf abnormal and in February 2015 it says "Bacteria 1+ hpf - is this something to be concerned about?
My platelet in Oct 2014 was 387 and in February 2015 it says "406 (10x3/uL) high - what does that mean and should I be concerned?
And finally: my Triglycerides were 119 in Oct and now they are 58 - that is good, correct?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Explained below...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. First, I need to have the full tests reports, so I can analyze them myself?
I need to know if the bacteria that resulted few were found in your urine or blood sample? Next, I need to also know the reference range of the lab where you did the tests before running into final conclusions.

2. The blood cells, including platelets levels continuosly change according to the:
- peripheral needs
- central production from the bone medulla

So, both of your platelets counts were within normal range, and there is nothing worrisome. This slight difference is normal, especially, if you had any trauma or infection recently.

3. The normal triglycerides level is lower than 150. Yours are excellent. Hope they will be like this forever!

Hope it was of help!
