Posted on Tue, 26 Apr 2016
Question: In continuation of my last question.

Culture and sensitivity -Urine (culture) and Culture and sensitivity -Blood (culture) are both normal

Thyroid profile and Fever pack are also all normal.

So, after seeing all the above results, will it be still require to test Sputum AFB, Gram stain and culture or will there be an answer grom the above. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Do you have a cough?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this fever and all the abnormal lab reports you have mentioned. I understand you have been advised to do a series of test to investigate for a possible tuberculosis. I will like to know whether you have a cough. If you do, for how long have you had it? Have there been any changes in your weight? Appetite? Excessive sweating at night?

I will like to get responses to the above questions before weighing on on the need and added value of AFB investigations. I hope to hear back from you at your earliest convenience and promise to respond as soon as possible.

There's no sweating or loss of appetite but weight is losing by one and half kg within this 20 days. I have already given my sputum for the test of ACID FAST STAIN, CULTURE AND SENSITIVITY AND GRAM STAIN. I will report after getting those results again. But one thing what I want to know is, can there be other testing without the use CT Scan for diagnosing the soft tissue opacity that was seen in the X-Ray Chest PA. Thank you Doctor

Brief Answer:
Let's get these results first!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Am afraid we are rushing so much with this testing. Slow down and let's take a step at a time. For some reasons, we are being too aggressive at this. I will not recommend any CT scan at this time until the results of the AFB are back.

Keep me posted and I wish you well.
