Brief Answer:
Normal response of the organism

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

Working out for over fourty minutes is classified as a vigorous physical activity. This seems as a totally normal response of your organism to physical stress. Every time we stress our bodies, physically or psychologically, adrenalin gets flushed in the system, and the heart rate goes up to cope with the demands of the organism, regarding the heart. There is a formula for physical exercise, 220-age, which in your case, is considered normal when it goes up to 181 beats per minute. However, this is not an arbitrary parameter. I, myself, was a basketball player, and after every game, when they measured my heart rate, it would be in the range of 200-220 heart beats per minute. Therefore, I think that there is nothing to be worried about, also you should limit your exercise to 45 minutes a day. It is also normal to feel out of breath, after all that kind of exercise. So, keep up the good work, in my opinion.

I hope I was helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton

Is there a point when I should become worried and visit a cardiologist .I suffer from heart palpations because of anxiety .Over the past five years I did all kinds of heart exams .They only find a skipped beat which they said is normal and my heart showed to be healthy with all the test results ,but that was over 5 years ago . How often should one get there heart checked ? I do lead a healthy life style .Thanks

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried about

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back.

I still think you have nothing to be worried about. The age of risk in male population is above 45 years old. I am even more relieved now, that you had all your tests normal, even though they were carried out five years ago. It is normal to have rare premature ventricular beats and, also, it is normal that physical activity produces significant, physiological, tachycardia.

I hope my follow-up is helpful. If you do not have further questions, please close the discussion and rate the answer.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
