What Do My Scan Reports Indicate?
Question: I am 12 weeks 4 days pregnant. I had a little bleeding very light pink off and on for a few days around 7 weeks. I went in to an ultrasound at 9 weeks and the baby was fine had a heartbeat but measured 8 weeks. Went in Thursday for my appointment, 01/21/16. They couldn't find a heartbeat on the Doppler, or ultrasound or transvaginal ultrasound, and they said baby measured 9 weeks. I still feel pregnant, tingling boobs, etc, also baby is still very much intact. I have no signs in any way of a miscarriage. I am loosing weight though. I am scheduled for a d&c on Wednesday 01/27/16. Is it at all possible that the ultrasound tech could have been wrong? I have a very tipped uterus. Could the baby just be hiding in a spot to not catch the heartbeat? This is my 6th pregnancy, and I have never had trouble like this. Should I have the Dr. do an hcg test and another ultrasound before the d&C?
Brief Answer:
You can request repeat ultrasound scan
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply:
1) Ultrasound with Doppler cannot be wrong . Miscarriage is likely to have happened.
2) You can still request your doctor to repeat ultrasound scan before performing D&C.
3) Serum beta hCG value will not be of much help as they will be still high. Ultrasound is best way to predict.
4) You could have miscarried even though there is no past history of miscarriage. As age advances, the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities increase.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
