What Do My Scan Test Results Indicate?

Question: I had a left oophorectomy in 2012. This year I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound, Findings:The uterus is anteverted, measuring about 6.7 x 5.2 x 6.9 cm.
The myometrium is slightly heterogeneous without focal lesions. The endometrial stripe measures about 0.5 cm. Linear hyperechoic
structure with posterior shadowing, identified within the endometrial cavity is likely compatible with an IUD.The right ovary measures 3.3 x 1.6 x 2.0 cm. It contains occasional peripheral follicles. There are no definite masses. A small, about 2.0 x 0.9 cm fluid collection is identified within the right adnexal region. Arterial and venous blood flow is seen within the right ovary. The abnormal masses or fluid collections are present within the left adnexa. So I guess my question is should I be worried about the abnormal masses or fluid collection on the left side, when my ovary and fallopian tube we removed 4years ago?

Brief Answer:
Please write in detail about the left adnexal mass and fluid collection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

The fluid collection in the right adnexa could just be fluid released during ovulation. It could also be peritoneal fluid which is loculated in the right adnexa due to adhesions. A small possibility is that it is fluid collection within the fallopian tube. It is small and so you need not worry. However it is important to confirm fallopian tube is normal if fertility is your concern.

You have written "The abnormal masses or fluid collections are present within the left adnexa". Can you please write in detail about the left adnexal mass fluid collection on the left side. This information is not sufficient to comment on it.

I am waiting for your reply.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Impression:
Status post left oophorectomy.
Right adnexa a tiny amount of fluid is likely physiologic.
Otherwise, no significant abnormalities present.

Brief Answer:
The ultrasound is normal. Nothing to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

This report clearly means that there is no abnormal mass or fluid in the left adnexa.

May be you mentioned so, by mistake. The ultrasound is normal. Nothing to worry about.

If you have further concerns, I ill be happy to answer.

Dr Rama

so why does the report say the abnormal masses or fluid collections? there's no explanation as to what it is it is or anything.. I just don't see why he would write abnormal of indeed it was normal

Brief Answer:
My guess is that there is a typing mistake.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

My guess is that it is a typing mistake ( of course a grave mistake). Instead of writing 'No abnormal masses or fluid collections are present within the left adnexa' he has written "The abnormal masses or fluid collections are present within the left adnexa".

It is very clear that if at all there was mass/fluid collection in the left adnexa he would have mentioned about its size and other characteristics. He would have also mentioned about it in the final impression.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Hi,
Welcome back.

The fluid collection in the right annexa is due to adhesion ( formed due to scar tissue ).

But the left annexa is normal. That was a typing mistake.

Hi,
Welcome back.

It was probably a spelling mistake.

He did mention about small a small collection in right adnexa. So I presume that if something was seen on the left side, even that would have been mentioned.

If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Hi,
Welcome back.

That is fine. He should have written about left adnexa clearly in his report. It would have saved you from stress.
