What Do My Semen Analysis Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Apr 2016
Question: I am a 30 years old male and I did my Semen culture last week and the results show moderate growth of Klebsiella Oxytoca in semen. Four months ago, I did Semen analysis test and the results were: Total Count- 58.0 Million/ml, Motile: 30%, Morphology: Normal- 40%, Abnormal- 60%. Are the results of the tests related and will it affect my fertility. I do not smoke or drink. Please advise with proper treatment.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need to take a course of appropriate antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for posting your query on healthcare magic.
I have gone through the history and the result of semen analysis done that was done 4 months earlier.
1. Semen culture is suggestive of infection caused by Klebsiella oxytoca organisms.
2. As per the WHO guidelines, all the parameters of semen analysis are within the normal range except for the the motility (30%) which is low. The likelihood of pregnancy increases if the motility is more than 50%.
Had I been your treating physician I would have advised you a course of appropriate antibiotic like Levofloxacin 500 mg once daily for 14 days. Also, repeat the semen analysis after 4-6 weeks of treatment. Beside antibiotic take a healthy balanced diet, increase the intake of fruits, vegetables, take plenty of oral fluids and do regular exercise.
Hope the suggestions given above would be useful.
Best regards.

Thanks for the advice.
So, I gather from the reply that the motility is affected by the Klebsiella oxytoca organism. I have some more queries regarding the same.

1) How long will it take for the infection to remove and the motility to increase if I take Levofloxacin / appropriate antibiotic along with proper diet ?

2) Does Fertisure M medicine (which I was taking till now) help in improving sperm motility and quality ?

3) Do I have to follow any procedure while having intercourse or stop intercourse during the medication ?

Finally, is this thing curable as we are trying to have a baby since last five months and I am tensed at the moment.

Thanks and Regards.
