What Do My Urine Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: Hello! Had a UA - DIP, done today. Everything was normal except the Urine Blood, which states "Trace-intact" and Specific Gravity, Urine <=1.005. I am wondering what the results might mean. I have no pain when urinating, no pain in my back area (so nothing really that points to a UTI or Kidney infection). I have had to go more frequently for the past several days. Just curious if I should bring attention to these results or if they are normal (given that all other results are normal).

Brief Answer:
I suggest doing a KUB ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic! Your diptest for your urine showed that you have a little blood in your urine. This could be normal, exercise induced or due to stone formation. I would suggest that you investigate further by doing an ultrasound of the kidneys and urinary bladder. This is a non invasive exam that doesn't involve radiation and is very convenient and safe. Ultrasound has a very good catch rate in detecting abnormalities in the urinary system.

Your specific gravity showed you have a very diluted urine. This means that you are consuming a lot of water or fluids thereby you are producing more urine causing you to urinate more frequently. It would safe to consume 1.5-2L of water everyday and anything more than that is excessive and would make you have urinary frequency.
