What Do Numbness And Loss Of Function On One Side Of Body Suggest?
Question: My husband had an MRI last week due to symptoms of numbness, loss of function on his rt side of his body , including leg weakness, loss of reflexes, no function in his arm, numbness and tingling etc. he has RA and has been on biologics such as embrel for years but had to DC them secondary to diploplia caused by 6 th cranial nerve palsy. His Babinski sign was also positive. The neurologist suggested a possible CNS lesion. I have been looking up the possibilities and it appears that a tumor or medication induced MS are the most likely causes. I am an RN and wonder what further questions I should be asking I do not feel it is acceptable to wait until our late August appointment for follow up since we have not gotten any results and the symptoms are now occurring on his rt side as well.

I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
By history and description, possibility of developing CV (cerebrovascular) stroke is more.
In MS (multiple sclerosis) symptoms like ataxia, speech difficulty, swallowing difficulty, visual problems, bowel, bladder problems etc are more common.
His symptoms like progressive weakness in one side (right) of the body both motor as well as sensory, absent reflexes etc are commonly seen in CV stroke. And at his age of 57 years CV stroke is more common.
So, in my opinion, you should not wait till august end. Collect MRI report as soon as possible and consult emergency room and start appropriate treatment.
You should ask him if he has headache, heaviness in head, vomiting or nausea, speech texture is changed or not, swallowing is OK or not, tone and power of left sided upper and lower limb are OK or not etc.
Please let me know
1. Is he having hypertension?
2. Is he having diabetes?
3. Has he ever undergone lipid profile test?
