What Do Palpitations And Lack Of Energy Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017
Question: We live down in S. XXXXXXX I have had 1 previous heart attack. When I go out to work in the garden, I get extremely tired. I hoe weeds, set up roads, plant seeds, etc. Try to pick light winds or clouds. Last night I just walked about 45-50 yards to see if another good place to plant and then walked back. Got inside and pulse felt fast. Blood pressure not bad. Also had fever (or heat). Felt nervous, shaky, and a couple of times
heart started pounding, which it does from time to time-- and usually stops in a few minutes-not scary, but not exactly normal to me over time. What worries much is go out of town to talk with client (45-56 miles round trip) and feel like I haven't got enough strength to do anything. Sometimes just want to lay down.
Does this XXXXXXX like potential heart trouble. I have already beat 1 and try an follow M.D. instructions to the letter. Diabetic so sugar eaten is in good range. Thank you for your time. XXXX

I would recommend performing some tests:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to heart failure.

The fact that you had fever, could be a sign of an infection, which can also trigger this clinical situation.

Anyway, considering your past medical history, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart function and structure
-NT-pro BNP levels for heart failure
- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count for anemia
- fasting glucose and HbA1C to investigate if diabetes is under control
- PCR and ESR for inflammation
- kidney and liver function tests.

Further tests may be needed (a cardiac stress test to investigate for coronary artery disease).

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
