What Do Pelvic Pain And Bleeding After A Medical Abortion Indicate?

Posted on Sat, 6 Feb 2016
Question: Hello,

I had a medical abortion 12/18, this monday I started bleeding heavier (not horrible) but more than i have been through the process and am having some pain and tension in m low abdomen. I am wondering if it is possible for me to be having my period, or if I should be worried about infection. the blood is bright red, still some small clots. There has been a lot of blood when I wipe after urinating. My biggest concern is an incomplete abortion. The pelvic pain is pretty constant, I have a strong tolerance for pain and dont need to take anything. but, its extremely noticeable. my follow up is on 1/15 but dont know if its smart to wait that long

Brief Answer:
Visit your gynaecologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety related to the issue.
This is probably not related to period and most likely due to retained products of conception.
In my opinion you should not wait till 15 January and rather visit your gynaecologist for examination and she might like to get an ultrasound done too.
All the best

Do you feel like I should go to a weekend clinic, or is it safe to call my gynaecologist Monday

or urgent care tonight?

Brief Answer:
Depends on amount of bleeding

Detailed Answer:
In case bleeding is mild to moderate viz 3-4 pads a day then you can wait for a few days till Monday but in case it is severe or there are clots coming or in case it increases over night then visit tomorrow morning itself.
Take care
