What Do Persistent Wheezing And Swelling In Throat Despite Medication Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hello

Hope you're well. I wanted to let you know we tried what you suggested (althought in a different way)

For around 2 months I have been trying gabapentin 600mg a day
For around 1 month and a half I have been trying montelukast for allergy
Around 2 weeks ago I tried a Celestone Cronodose intramuscular shot, a corticosteroid. (I know you suggested sistemic corticosteroids in your last answer)

I do feel a bit of relief, but not too much. Gabapentin has helped with the throat clearing in some sort, but 2 weeks after that I had an upper respiration infection and it got worse.
Montelukast helped with some allergy symptoms, mainly nose, but I never complained of those in the past. With my throat it helped slightly

However I still have disturbances on the right side of my throat chest and back (always right side). I also still feel the throat wheeze, which seems to come from my larynx or upper airway. Please see my previous message to see a history of what has been tried.

I also had a laryngoscopy and stroboscopy. Vocal cords move properly, there are no swelling signs on the throat, arytenoids are perfect.

My disturbances are below the XXXXXXX apple, chest, uppper back and upper neck

Any other ideas I can try?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your review query.
Read our previous discussions well.
You were on the correct medicines, although it needs amendment sometimes as follow:
Since 600 mg of gabapentin is helping you, you may increase the dose to 900 to be taken as 300 mg every 8 hours and all this after consent of your treating Doctor.
Continue Motelukast as before.
How many injections have you taken of Celestone and what dosages and gaps?

Upper respiratory tract infection must have reverted back the effectiveness of the medicines you have been taking and hence some of the symptoms might have been enhances/restarted or added on. This infection also reduces you immunity hence takes further time to recover nicely and fully.
Please continue the same medicines, give feedback as asked for above and in previous sessions.
Continue multivitamins.
Get blood Vitamin D levels and if less than normal values, you need Vitamin D supplements.
Awaiting for your feedback so that we can discuss further.

Hello

Ok I will start taking 900mg per day then as my doctor already suggested me to raise it if convenient.
I only had one shot of Celestone, 6mg
I did have lots of blood checks done and nobody reported anything, but I will ask.

I am actually not taking any multivitamin supplement

Thanks
