What Do Red Bumps On Chest Indicate?

Question: I've had about a dozen or so small red bumps randomly spread out across my chest area which is covered in hair. They range in size from the tiniest dots to approximately 2 or 3mm in diameter. As some tend to go away after about 6 to 8 weeks, others appear. They somewhat resemble zits but are not filled with pus and appear to be crusted or flakey at times. If I try to squeeze them it is painful but they don't leak out anything and it only seems to irritate them. They seem to get itchy occasionally but not frequently. I've had these symptoms for at least 8 to 10 months and I'm growing concerned because they appear to be slowly spreading down from my chest to my abdomen.
