What Do Skin Tags Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: Hi Doctor, I have attached the picture of my anus. Here if you can see I have 3 skin tags, 2 at the top and 1 at below. Previously I used to have 2 at the top. I showed it to the doctor 6-7 months back and he said this is nothing to worry only if it bothers me then they can remove otherwise nothing to worry. It doesn't pain, however sometimes it gets itchy and slight pain sometimes (not always). The bottom skin tag I noticed it has slightly increased in size. Please let me know if this is a thing to worry. Thank You

Brief Answer: NO worry. Better to get it removed Detailed Answer: Hi XXXX, thanks for using HCM. I went through the query and attached report and understood your concern. The skin tags usually does not cause any problem. Since the size is increasing with occasional pain and itching, its better to get it removed. Removal will relieve your anxiety and also we can prevent any further complications like infections, ulcers and also very rarely cancers. Any mass/swelling if shows increase in size, ulcer or pain then needs to be evaluated to rule out cancer or other problem. So better is to get removed it instead of going for screening every time you get any abnormal symptoms. I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask if any further queries and I will be glad to answer them. Wish you good health and faster recovery. Regards

Hi Doctor Thanks for the response. Kindly let me know if this is not cancer or any threat. If you see the top tag then it seems to have pus. I feel sometime itchy or rare pain. Thanks

Brief Answer: No serious threats. Local hygiene, NSAID Detailed Answer: Hi, XXXX, This does not look like cancer macroscopically (as visible). But since appears white in color this may be pus or just a skin tag.If pus usually there will be severe pain with fever, chills and rigors or there may not be any systemic symptoms with mild pus. So since you don't have any of the symptoms I can't tell whether it is pus or not. But local examination with slight pressure on it will help in diagnosing. The threat is, if it gets infected or even ulcer or sinus formation or if chronic irritation can turn into cancer. So right now with your symptoms with NSAID like ibuprofen will relieve pain and keep local hygiene and dry. This will help in relieving all the symptoms. Hope I answered your queries and are helpful to you. Wish you good health and faster recovery. Regards
