What Do Spotting And Cramps During Pregnancy Suggest?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Hello.

I am 6 weeks pregnant. Yesterday I started spotting and cramping. I consulted my doctor per telephone and he suggested that I take No-spa (drotaverine hydrochloride). I took 1 pill. The spotting and the cramping stopped but now I am worried about taking the drug since I am in my first trimester. Could you please let me know if you have any experience with this drug in similar situations? Should I be worried?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You should not be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Drotavarin is a smooth muscle relaxant( new drug) and have some side effects like other drugs.
It is pregnancy category -C drug means on animal studies there is no adverse effects on foetus but no studies done on human being.
As you had taken only one pill and your symptoms resolved, in my opinion you should not be worried.
I have also used this tablet on my patients and usually it will not cause any adverse effects on foetus.
So please do not take any stress and enjoy your motherhood.
Hope found useful, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.
Regards
