Posted on Tue, 15 Jul 2014
Question: Hi my 2 year old son always seems to have swollen glands behind his ears especially the right one. Some days it doesn't seem as big but then it can appear all of a sudden. He seems fine but does suffer with dry scalp and skin and always has wax in his ear?

Brief Answer:
Swollen glands

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question. Palpable glands are very common in this age group. Behind the ears is a typical location. this is generally not anything to worry about. Sometimes these glands can themselves get infected and require antibiotic treatment. However, as long as they are not painful infection has been ruled out.

They don't seem to be painful but he can't talk properly yet so can't tell me. I might get him checked to see if he needs antibiotics etc
