Question: Hello Dr,

On1st July I had a protected sex with a SW only for onetime for less than 2 mins time.

Starring from that day for about 2 days I had body burning sensation and anxiety did not allow me sleep well, the same is continuing even today.

On 4th and 5th I had night sweats around the neck, suddenly I was getting up touching my neck to check the symptoms.

around this day I had muscles pain for one day.

After started reading lot of articles online and understood the symptoms of HIV, and everyday I was checking for these symptoms of existstence in my body and later a week (on 7thJuly) found left side of the neck a little swollen by seeing cannot be noticed only when I touch it I can feel that, still today it is there like that.

Went to a Dr on 8th July and 11th July as well, dr has asked me to show my body and genital parts and he has told me nothing to worry much, suggested for VDRL test and it came non reactive.

Today is 15th day, no major symptoms found other than swollen glands at the neck. ( may be cerical lymps). But no pain at all.

Can you please suggest me further?

Brief Answer:
Lymph node in neck could be due to trivial causes

Detailed Answer:
Hello. thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist and venereologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern

Protected sex is safe as far as risk of transmission of Hiv is concerned therefore you need not worry too much in terms of Hiv.
However a condom does not protect completely against other common STDs like genital herpes, human papilloma virus transmission.

As far as feeling a swelling in neck/ lump is concerned, it is most likely a swollen lymph node which can happen due to trivial/ local causes like a viral sore throat/ infection and is not a specific symptom for any Sexually Transmitted Disease.
