What Do The Echocardiogram Reports Indicate?

Question: This is for my 2days old son. Echo was done for him as per pediatrist recommendation due to some abnormal noice in heart. Attached are his echo reports. As per report he has tiny pda - left to right shunt.
As per doctor, hole is of around 1 mm size and should go away within 6 weeks for 80% of cases.
Want to have your opinion on this and want to know treatment for 20% of cases where it may not heal automatically after 6 weeks. Please feel free to give any relevant details as we are worried.

Brief Answer:
Nothing worth worrying about
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
A PDA is a connection of fetal connection that gets closed by 7 day of life. In case it does not, there are very simple medicines that can help in its closure. It is only in extreme cases (very rare) that angiography mediated closure is required.
A connection of 1 mm on day 2 is very normal and you need not worry about it. A follow up echocardiogram would clear your anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Checked the reports
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have checked the reports. Most often the PFO closes by 6 weeks. The follow up echocardiogram would confirm the status.

âThanks for details doctor. Please share more details about next procedure / options if PFO won't close by 6 weeks and how much risky it is.
Brief Answer:
No need to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. You are worrying unnecessarily. Even if PFO does not close by 6 weeks nothing is to be done other than periodic follow ups. It is only in case of adverse symptoms (unexplained neurological events) that surgical intervention needs to be done. The details of the indications can be found at:

Since I am not suggesting any procedures, the question of risk does not apply. Nevertheless, worrying too much definitely has its risks.
