Question: .
hello doctor,
I had tested postive for Australian antigen in 2005. today I am 31 years old. I have a wife and 1 child who is 6 yrs old. Then in 2005 doctor told me I was just a carrier and hence there is nothing to be worried about so I forgot about it and carried on with my life.
However just recently after I saw lot of advertisements and public awareness being created I realized that I need to get this treated. I have visited a physician who asked me to do antibody tested. I have attached the report. pls go through the report and advise how to go about with further treatment.

Brief Answer:
Needs further testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Thank you for uploading the reports and I have gone through them.I understand that you were tested for Hepatitis B in 2005 and it was positive.

Here how you should go about it

1. Getting antiHbeag is not enough to know whether or not there is an active ongoing infection. Negative test only suggests that antibodies have not formed against the viral antigens

2. I suggest you to get HbsAg. Hbe antigen and HBV DNA levels done along with liver function test and ultra sound of the abdomen

Please get back to me with the reports, I will help you accordingly

Regards

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for your reply. I got myself tested again for AUSTRALIAN ANTIGEN and the report is Positive.

I have noted the tests mentioned by you, is it advisable to get the test done only at NABL accredited Lab or I can get it done by any other LAB as well. I am asking this because there are various Labs with different rate list for the same tests.

Brief Answer:
NABL lab

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

Australian antigen postivity implies and ongoing infection so please get yourself tested as soon as possible.
I recommend getting tested in a NABL accredited lab as they have stringent rules regarding standardization of the tests and are reliable.

I am happy you have taken up on my suggestion.

I wish you good health

Brief Answer:
Good report

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for attaching the reports, I am sorry for the short delay in my reply. I had gone to CMC vellore for official work and I just got back

From the investigations you have attached it looks like your liver function is normal which means that your liver is functioning well.

At this point of time I recommend you to get Hepatitis B e 'antigen' done instead of ' antibody'. Presence of antigen signifies an ongoing infection and positive antibody just tells as that there is no immune response to Hepatitis B.

Let the next set of reports come so that we can be more sure about whether or not you require any form of treatment immediately

Brief Answer:
Negative for antigen

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back. The HbeAg is also negative which is excllent news. It means that there is no active infection in your body further supported by a normal liver function test. I am sure hepatitis pcr will also show a negative result
