Question: Hello,
I have undergone a medical checkup last week and below are the Cholesterol results that I would like to share and get your feedback on.
My daily life cycle consists of regular gym in the morning for 30 minutes (since past 7 years) followed by my office travel. I work in an IT firm so the day is spent in front of a laptop.
Total Cholesterol : 174.6
Triglycerides : 153.5
HDL Cholesterol (Direct) : 30.5
Non HDL Cholesterol : 144.1
LDL Cholesterol(direct) : 121.8
VLDL Cholesterol : 22.3
CHOL/HDL CHOL Ratio : 5.7
LDL CHOL/HDL CHOL Ratio : 4.0
P.S. I usually have ghee alongwith daal rice as part of my dinner daily, for many years now. Hope ghee can remain a part of my diet :)

Brief Answer:
its favourable but not perfect.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
For a healthy 30 years old male with no known medical issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, angina/ heart attack / stroke, this lipid profile is favorable but not perfect. The HDL cholesterol is lower than expected. The HDL can be increased by doing more exercise or eating fish. The preferred method will be exercise. A limited amount of Ghee is permissible on some days of week, However regular intake over a long period of time may not be good for your lipid profile.
Feel free to discuss further.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Thank you so much Dr. XXXXXXX for the reply.
A quick follow up question - Overall, I understand that the report seems normal, excluding the HDL level which is low. I do exercise daily morning but apart from this would you suggest any specific do's and don'ts to correct the HDL level ?

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
The methods to increase HDL levels are exercise, fish intake, fish oil supplements and medications.
If you eat fish, You can increase its intake. however if you do not eat fish increasing duration of exercise is next best way. Supplements and medications are not recommended now to increase HDL levels.
I hope you do not smoke.
Sincerely
