What Do The Following Thyroid Profile Test Results Indicate?
Depends on whether or not you currently are on meds for thyroid
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help you within my best capabilities and honest opinion. I would like to however ask whether or not you are on any medications to control your thyroid profile?
1. If yes, then the medications seem to be helping to keep your thyroid enzymes within the normal range.
So if at all there were any abnormal values prior to the initiation of the medications causing symptoms (which also include depression), then the normal levels now should help to suppress those symptoms (including the depression). But in such a scenario, and endocrinologist should always be involved and I would not say that and endocrinologist consult would be useless, so you can go ahead with one
2. If not, then the thyroid profile seems perfectly normal and within normal range, which means there should be depression associated with such values, and if at all depression is present in this patient there should be another cause for it, but not the thyroid, thus an endocrinologist consult would prove fruitless
I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.
Best wishes.
Again, here are the results.
T3Free SerPl-mCnc My Value=2.8pg/mL Range=2.3-4.2
TSH SerPl-aCnc My Value=0.86 mIU/L Range=0.40-4.50
What concerns me is the low number on the TSH. It's close to bottom range. Again, would other tests help?
Please elaborate.
Thank you
I don't think it would be beneficial sir
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.
Yes, I have gone through your results, but let me tell you that depression is seen along with hypothyroidism ,under-acitve thyroid), wherein the T3 values are low and TSH is elevated above normal.
In your case, TSH is low, and so this result is not even close to the levels which can raise doubts for hypothyroidism (which is associated with depression). If in fact your TSH values would be high or closer to the upper range of normal I would have requested for a retest, but for now from these results I do not see the advantage of going ahead with retesting.
I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any doubts of clarifications you have, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
