Question: I have been detected with 'Ameabic Liver Abscess' with 31.8 ml via ultrasound before 2 weeks. I was under treatment with 6 days I/V (Metrogyl 1000mg/day thrice plus antibiotic). Next ultrasound has shown increase in abscess Abscess to 53.1ml. Now I on oral medication Metrogyl 800mg thrice/day and cefasyn 500mg twice/day since last 7 days. I have no severe pain and no fever since last 9 days. Next ultrasound on yesterday is showing marginal reduction as 52ml. My TLC has dropped from 18,700 to 12,400. Doctor advised that it will take longer time in getting the abscess reduced. Please suggest If I am on right track or what to do next

Brief answer.....radiological resolution may take many months to achieve
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
You are on right track of your medicines and continue your medicines as advised.
Once the blood counts are normal and you are symptom free, then there is nothing to worry. It is generally achieved by 2-3 weeks, however size of abscess in ultrasound will reduce only very slowly. It may take many months to resolve completely.
You should not worry about it and moreover getting repeated ultrasounds are also unnecessary because very slow resolution of abscess size will bother you unnecessarily.
Relax and continue your medicines without bothering about the ultrasound size of abscess.
Most important thing is that you should be symptom free.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Thanks a lot for the encouragement.

Few additional points which I like to discuss.

1. One worry, TLC has dropped from 18,700 to 12,400 in 5 days but there is no change noticed in TLC taken after another 5 days
2. Feeling week with weight loss of 6-8 kgs.
3. What foods to be taken and avoided?
4. I am off from works these days and relaxing. Should I start performing my daily routine works?

Your valuable suggestions are highly appreciated

Hello,
I will answer one by one.
1....it is not necessary that TLC will always drop by the same rate.
2....weakness and weight loss is normal. It would be all right gradually
3...alcohol,oily,spicy and outside food to be avoided
4...if you feel you have the energy to work, you can work. Assess your energy levels yourself and then decide about the work. If your body can afford,go and work otherwise take rest.
Thanks
