What Do These IgG And IgM Levels Of Herpes Test Result Indicate?

He called me the other day and told me that he was tested for herpes 2 igg and his results are higher, he got 5.0
I never had any symptoms but now that I know that I have the virus I feel itchy all the time.
He told me that could be the possibility that I have that virus and that I didn't know, but prior him I didn't have any sexual activity for the past 3 years.
he told me that he never had or have any symptoms.
so that is why I want to know because I'm angry, and upset, but more than anything scare.( I don't want to have genital problems for the rest of my life)
IgG not specific
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I understand that you are concerned that you have got genital herpes infection from your partner.
From your history, I understand that both of you have got your IgG and IgM levels to HSV2 tested.
I have seen the reports which you have attached. The reports of your partner is very hazy and I am not able to see the letters. Please send a clear image.
IgG levels indicate an infection in the past. If you do not have a baseline negative report, it is difficult to say whether you got a positive IgG because of your sexual exposure 10-12 weeks back. IgG can also be positive in individuals who have been completely asymptomatic in the past. So, it is a very non specific indicator.
IgM level, on the other hand indicate an active infection in the last 6 weeks. It is negative in your case. So it means that you have not had a recent infection.
If your partner has had no symptoms in the form of blisters, painful ulcers or erosions on the genitalia, I would suggest you to ignore this value and always use protection during sexual intercourse to prevent unnecessary anxieties.
Hope I have cleared your doubts.
If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Johny Chacko
