What Do These PET-CT Scan Results Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: My daughter got her results back today and I don't understand them need to talk to an oncologist
There is moderately avid focal fdg uptake in the left axillia in an area of residual irregular software tissue thickening related to the deep aspect of tissue calcification in this area .very mild fdg uptake ( less then mediastinal blood pool ) is demonstrated in small left axillary nodes deep to the irregular software tissue
There has been resolution of all other previously noted sites of abnormal fdg uptake
There is variable mild to moderate fdg uptake in the bilateral cervical nodes the most prominent of which are left level 11A and bilateral level 1B lymph nodes
There is some trace holdup related to injection through the access line
Splenic uptake is now less then liver uptake

Comments
1. The residual moderate avid fdg uptake in the left axillary software tissue may b due to residual viable lymphoma or an inflammatory cause( a seroma and soft tissue gas was noted in the previous study and on today s there is considerable soft tissue calcification .no evidence of residual fdg and lymphoma elsewhere

2. Increased fdg uptake in cervical and submandibular nodes is more than likely related to the reported mouth ulcers inflammation ( the viualised nodes today were not involved at presentation ) in the clinical setting these could b followed with dedicated ultrasound to ensure resolution if clinically appropriate

Brief Answer:
appears to be good response to chemo

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

You have not mentioned the clinical history. From the report I assume that she had a lymphoma and this scan was done after x no of chemo cycles.

Nevertheless, this shows good response to chemo. There is only a focal fdg uptake now. Most probably this will go off at the end of therapy.

Hope this helps. If you can share more details then I can guide you better.

Regards

Brief Answer:
should be fine

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for sharing the details.

As 4 more cycles are to go, most likely she would be in complete remission after that. Mouth ulcers will go with time before next cycle.
