Question: my kid is 6 years old. he fell in the school and a bigger kid just stepped by mistake on his elbow. he was subjected to XRay on 19 November and was diagnosed for fracture. we had his hand in Gypsum bandage for 2 weeks qnd then redid the XRay on 5 Dec. no signs of improvement. the Doctorw first impression was that it needs a wire then changed his mind to make a new tighter gypsum bandage for another 3 weeks. I am attaching hereto both Xrays and want to inquire about your opinion on whether Gypsum can do or wire is a must.

Brief Answer:
Capitellum fracture. Seems stable in new Xray. Can attempt trial of gypsum.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

In the earlier Xray, the capitellum seems fractured and changing position during the xrays.

But in the latest xrays, the capitellum seems stable.

If this position is maintained, the capitellum shall unite and not need k wire fixation. But do discuss with your Doctor about the chances of avascular necrosis of the capitellum as sometimes the blood supply may be reduced in such Fractures and can cause the capitellum to become weak and brittle and arthritis later on.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Dr. Aashish Raghu
