What Do These Abdominal X-ray Findings Indicate?
Question: I have suffered Crohns disease for over 30 years and had multiple surgeries for that. Also multiple other surgeries. Today I had a simple abdo x-ray and it showed faecal loading and with the change lately in bowel habit also occult underlying obstructing colonic neoplasia. Could you please explain what this means? My specialist has gone on leave for 3 weeks.
Brief Answer:
Finding suggests fecal loaded bowel with possibility of hidden colon cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Your abdominal X-ray findings suggests that bowel loops are filled with fecal matter.
Main reason may be constipation and it may be due to many reasons like functional, crohn's disease(from which you are suffering),carcinoma etc.
Your X-ray report mention possibility of hidden colon cancer. However,it can't be confirmed by X-ray.You may need further investigations like CT scan, colonoscopy for confirmation.
Firstly,I suggest for clinical evaluation and then investigations can be decided.

A follow up CT has been suggested but I had a colonoscopy less than 6 months ago and it showed for the at least 15 cms of small bowel has ulcers. I also suffer Alkalising Spondylitis and neutropenia and I have lost 15% to 40% bone density showing on the last scan. The Dr did remove a couple of polyps during the last colonoscopy. I also have had 20cms of small bowel removed from a previous op. I know you may not be able to answer this - but what are the odds of it being malignant going by the report today??
Brief Answer:
Carcinoma of colon can't be presumed from fecal loaded bowel X-ray.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Carcinoma of colon can't be presumed from fecal loaded bowel X-ray.
But it is important to rule it out in your case due to your history.
