What Do These Blood And Urine Reports Indicate?
I am in 33rd week of my pregnancy. Recently my obst asked me to get my urine routine and blood sugar done. Blood sugar has fasting of 81 and pp of 104 but in urine routine I had 50 mg/dl ketones. Why do I have them? Can they harm my baby in anyway? Please advice. How can they be flushed out?
pregnancy is a state of facilitated fasting
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
Iam Dr.Srilatha gynaecologist.I have gone through your query.
In my opinion presence of ketone bodies in urine might not be a significant thing.
The pregnancy is a state of facilitated fasting where in the the food which is taken is utilized for the continuous supply of nutrients for the fetus and the mother depends on the fats and stored glycogen for the energy.
This fats and glycogen on breakdown produce ketone bodies.
So this ketone bodies are seen in urine. So this is a normal phenomenon and it is seen in pregnancy.
So nothing to worry regarding them.
Your FBS and PPBS are also within normal limits.
Take healthy nutritional diet. And practice antenatal yoga or exercise.
Take adequate fluids upto 3 litres per day to prevent dehydration and urinary tract infections(UTI) as UTI are commonly seen in pregnancy.
So relax.Avoid stress.And have a happy pregnancy.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
ketones positive with normal sugars is insignificant
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.
Iam happy to know that reports are normal.
The presence or absence of ketone bodies might not be significant when sugars are normal as I explained you in the previous query as the generation of ketone bodies is a normal phenomenon in pregnancy.
This kind of positive or negative ketone bodies result is routinely seen in my clinic.
I usually will not go for urine culture and sensitivity report if the routine urine examination is normal without any symptoms. So the urine culture might be normal or with insignificant bacterial count.
Sowe will discuss after the report comes.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
