What Do These Calcium Levels Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2015
Question: Hi,

I recently had a blood test done and my calcium was high. 10.9 mg/dl calcium, 10.58 corrected calcium. After reading google I'm not really worried. I do feel a bit run down occasionally and sometimes have a dry mouth or strange taste in the mouth but I dont experience any other symptoms, bone pain or anything like that. Are these results worrying and what should I do next? Thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
High calcium

Detailed Answer:
The calcium level is not very high to be overly concerned.
However it merits a systematic evaluation to understand this condition.

Firstly, was this sample taken in the fasting state or had you eaten something in the hours preceding the test?
The reason to inquire about this is that calcium in food can sometimes raise blood calcium levels.

Regardless, it would be worth repeating the test in the fasting state along with the following tests

CBC
LFT
RFT
Electrolytes
Ionized calcium
Phosphorus
Intact PTH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
HbA1c
TSH
Free T4

Other tests may be necessary based on the results of these tests.
