What Do These Following PAP Smear And HPV Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: Hi there - my pap came back "ASCUS identified. Suspicious but not diagnostic for HGSIL." My HPV came back positive for four high-risk types. I am going to have a colposcopy. I don't have any cervical cancer symptoms that I am aware of. I am 46 years old, perimenopausal, and have irregular periods but I thought that was due to my being perimenopausal and also because I take spironolactone daily. Three years ago I had a normal pap, and five years ago i had a normal pap and NO high risk hpv, and a few months prior to that I had a pap with ASCUS. MY QUESTION IS THIS:      Does this look like cervical cancer to you? I am not so much worried about ASCUS but I am worried about this wording of "suspicion but not diagnostic for HGSIL." What do you make of that? Could it be something even WORSE than HGSIL? Thanks!

1 ) First of all do not panic.

2 ) As you might be knowing that prevention is always better than cure.

3 ) Getting PAP smear and HPV test is what you are rightly doing. Your report of positi

detection of HPV, indicates infection with certain types of papilloma viruses.
PAP smear report of HGSIL, means high grade squamous intra epithelial lesion.

It indicates some kind of precancerous changes in the lining of cervix and it is a superficial pathology.
You are rightly advised to get calposcopy doe.
Please discuss with your treating doctor about the procedure about the procedure and guided cervical biopsy. Usually Lugol.'s iodine test and acetic acid test help to get calposcopy guided cervical biopsy.

If your biopsy reports also show intra epithelial lesion, you can confirm that your pathology is restricted to the lining of the cervix and has not invaded the cervix tissue.
So please do not worry at present.
Think positive.

4 ) Depending on the reports , further treatment options can be planned by discussion with your treating doctor.
