What Do These Following X-ray Findings Indicate?
I am writing to get your opinion on a 2 year old girl who is currently on vacation in South XXXXXXX She has a 2 day history of fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. She was taken to a doctor in South XXXXXXX who diagnosed her with bronchopneumonia.
The X-rays and medication list is attached.
The X-rays confirm bronchial congestion however it is the prescription in particular that is concerning as it seems to be excessive. There is a lot of overlap in the medication and I'm not too sure about the necessity of using a medication such as Stilpane for this purpose. I would appreciate it if you could take a look at the attachments and provide your input on the treatment. Also, is there anything else you would recommend?
She has no significant medical for surgical history. Mother is allergic to penicillin so Klacid was prescribed instead of Augmentin.
Thanks in advance.
Sinumax Syrup can be stopped in my opinion.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concerns.
I have gone through the reports. Xray looks hazy should go with primary doctor's opinion.
Stilpane tablets contain paracetamol, codeine and it is mainly for fever. While sinumax Syrup contains paracetamol and pseudo ephedrine and it is mainly for cough and nasal discharge.
Other (not very clear) dry cough syrup which is written generally contains dextromethorphan and it is for dry cough.
Klacid is main antibiotic called Clarithromycin which I believe is essential. Stilpane should be given and dry cough syrup should also be given. Sinumax Syrup needs to be given only if cough is very severe in my opinion. Otherwise there is no need to give it. Empaped is Paracetmol rectal suppository put in the anus, which is again for fever. This quickly reduces the temperature than oral preparations.
I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
