What Do These Following Blood Test Reports Indicate?
Question: Hi, I am in the UK so all my results are uk readings.
a year ago, my endocrinologist tested my parathyroid and it was too high. It was re-tested 6 months ago. It was found that my vitamin D levels were 45, adjusted calcium was 2.29 and my parathyroid had gone down to 6.68. I was put on vitamin D tablets and asked to come back in 6 months for another re-test.
I have just got the results. My adjusted calcium has gone down slightly to 2.28, my vitamin d is now in a normal range of 111 nmol/L but my parathyroid has gone high again to 7.53. What is going on with my parathyroid? why is it going up again? They have told me to stay on the vitamin D tablets and have another re-test in 6 months time. Is this ok?
Thank you...

Brief Answer:
Parathyroid
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached results.
At the moment, all available parameters are within normal limits.
When someone comes to my practice with these type of reports, I do the following:
1 Stop checking the PTH levels (parathyroid hormone)
2 Check Calcium nay once a year
3 Check 25 hydroxy Vitamin D only once a year
I would check PTH only if the Calcium levels were abnormally high or abnormally low.
It is important to keep the vitamin D in the tarot range as it is now but taking adequate amounts of Vitamin D. It appears you are already doing so.
Hormones are complex things to understand and it would not make sense to try and read too much into PTH moving from 6.68 to 7.53
