What Do These Following Lab Reports Indicate?

Question: I had faced high fever accompanied with loosemotions and vomiting. I also had headache. Doctor advised viral but asked for various tests (reports attached). Could you provide your analysis?

Hi,

I went through the reports attached and they don't look alarming. You have a few changes in the blood counts with regards to MCV, MCH and Red blood cells; but these don't relate to the current infection. Further differential counts changes are not completely in favour of viral infection. Hence I believe you require more tests based on your symptom profile. Please provide details about:

- Duration : how long have you been suffering?
- Severity : Is it a high grade fever? Did you record temperature any time, if so what were the reading?
Do you have chills or rigor with fever?
- Associated complaints: Do you have any other symptoms?

I will look forward to these details before providing my opinion.

I had fever starting day before yesterday. It was high grade fever ranging upto 104 degrees which came down to 101 with crocin. Though the fever has subsided now to 100 but loose motions and headache persist.

Are there any food related restrictions to follow?

As the complaints are only 3 days old and as the fever is subsiding I would prefer to wait for few more days before conducting more tests.

At this point continue with paracetamol 500mg thrice or four times a day. Drink plenty of fluids and rehydration salt solution. Start probiotic including curd and yogurt. Avoid spicy; cold and refrigerated food. And rest adequately.

If the fever persists for couple of days more, you should be re-evaluated and I would consider repeating platelet count, widal count and stool test.
