What Do These Following Lab Reports Indicate?
Question: I haven't been well in quite some time. My home has had several issues which has caused toxic mold to be present. I ordered a Lyme Ab/Western Blot, Serum test. The results: Lyme Disease Ab, Quant, IgM 1.00 HIGH Ref Range 0.00-0.79 IgG P41 Ab. Present ABNORMAL IgG P39 Ab. Present ABNORMAL. I was told I don't have Lyme Disease. Considering I don't feel well, and these are out of range. What could this possibly mean? Is there treatment for this?

Hello,
there are certain diagnostic criteria for the laboratory diagnosis of Lyme disease with Antibodies/Western Blot. The patients usually have to undergo an antibody testing (which is more sensitive) and if they're positive they have to do the Western Blot (which is more specific).
The IgM Western Blot test is considered positive if 2 out of the following 3 bands are positive: 23,39 and 41. An IgG test is positive if 5/10 are positive: 18,23,28,30,39,41,45,58,66,93.
Please also note that patients with a long standing syndrome resembling of Lyme disease should have IgG positive too. IgM only after a couple of months of feeling sick means that Lyme disease can be reasonably excluded.
