What Do These HCG Levels Indicate?
Question: Hello, I just completed IVF and My total HCG at 5 weeks, 2 days pregnant was 14,400. I am worried that this seems abnormally high and out of the normal range. Do I have anything to worry about? Does this seem at risk for Down Syndrome?
Below are my results:
July 10th - 10 Days after Transfer (4 weeks pregnant): HCG 289
July 14th: HCG 2089
July 19th (5 weeks, 2 days): HCG 14,400
Please let me know your thoughts.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound should be done after one week
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
The hCG levels can be high for the gestational age in cases of multiple pregnancy, H mole , Down Syndrome and sometimes in normal pregnancy.
So, the exact diagnosis can be confirmed only by an ultrasound at 6 weeks gestation.
I will suggest you not to panic and get an ultrasound after one week.
Serum screening and detailed anomaly scan should be done at 18-20 weeks to rule out any Down Syndrome.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
