What Do These Herpes Blood Test Results Indicate?
Question: My brother had one blood test with Herpes simplex Igm diagnosed to be negative, but herpes type 1 was diagnosed to be positive with an index > 8.
Before that he did a test on his tongue and it was negative for herpes.
Are these results final , or is there any chance that he is not infected with herpes because he was taking so many medications and antibiotics at the testing time.
Do you recommend him to take it again ?
thanks and best regards.

Brief Answer:
This result is final but can be controlled if you are in doubts.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
These results are final and rarely has false positives. I will rather recommend that you only do another control testing if in doubts. However, this is not be of much added value and it is very unlikely that the antibiotics and other drugs at the time of testing could have led to a false positive result.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

The problem is his tongue and mouth was affected by burning due to hot beverage and it get infected that's why he did the test, and his mouth was almost bleeding.
Doctors saw his tongue and told him it can't be herpes and as I mentioned a test on his mouth showed negative results.
Can this upnormal conditions in his mouth and blood result in misleading results?

Brief Answer:
The tongue condition cannot cause this!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.
Please, know that there are two different herpes types that can affect the mouth. Am sure he’s negative for type 2 but positive for type one. The mouth’s condition is unlikely to account for this and would not have caused a false positive test.
I wish you well.

Thanks
Brief Answer:
Chicken pox and Herpes are all of the same family!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.
I will suggest that you get this test repeated. If the results still hold true, then consider that he might have suffered from this in the past. Should it turn out to be negative, then he is certainly free of it. However, chicken pox is of the same family as these other herpes viruses and a possible false positivity can be expected.
I wish you well and let me know if there is more that you want me to address.
