What Do These Ultrasound Findings Indicate?
Question: as on 11 Feb.2012 ,my prostate measured 29 x39x29 mms and volume was 17 cc. it was indicated that the size was normal and echotexture. As on 02 Feb.2013, 43x28x36 mms and volume was 22cc,and was indicated that prostate is mildly enlarged and normal in echotexture.Capsule appears normal. As on 21 Feb 2014, the volume was 26mm,( the report does not mention about the measurement) and no evidence of free fluid in the peritoneal cavity, para aortic and para iliac regions are normal. AS on 17 Nov. 2014 the report indicates enlarged in size with normal echotexture and volume is 27 cc. No paraaortic adenopathy. No ascites. Mild prostatomegaly.
No medication was used sofar.
Based on the observation please suggest the course of action required.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. You have mentioned ultrasound findings and residual volume at various dates.
2. The residual volume after voiding has increased from 17 ml initially to 27 ml as of 17th november 2014.
3. The prostate size is increasing, as to be expected in BPH
4. Course of action is based on your symptoms/ complaints, if you have any. For eg: Increased frequency of urination, feeling incomplete urination, urgency, or nocturia.
5. Medical treatment is available to ease urination through alpha adrenergic blockers and also reduce further increase of size of prostate through 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. However, treatment is based on your symptoms.
6. PSA level estimation can be done.

sir thanks for reply, 1) As of now Iam experiencing all the symptoms indicated in your reply and for the last 2 to 3 days very slight pain on the sides of the testicles is being experience. 2)with regard to feeling urgency , it is more during day time than during night time, I will go to bed by 10.30 and get up by 5.30 . till last 2 days I have not felt any need to go urination during night time. However, during last 2 days, Iam getting up once for urination 3) It was indicated in some magazines that the medicines meant for prostate problem will have some side effects and surgery will be better option, pl .clarify, 3) For PSA level estimation, what is the test to be done, pl. indicate

Both medications and surgeries have there own side effects. You can start on medications, then you will prolong the prostate excision by maybe minimum of 5 years. If you get any side effects, then you can go for surgery. There are two types of medications, and if you have any significant side effects, you can go for surgery.
Surgery has few minimal complications, not much to be worried about. There are methods which have very less complications too, but complications might be there. Depending on the surgery, the complications will vary. You need to discuss with your doctor regarding the type of surgery being planned and possible complications. Surgery is always a better option, but I have seen individuals on medication for even 30 years (without any side effects).
PSA level estimation is to evaluate for prostate cancer. The test is "prostate specific antigen" test.
