Iron deficiency needs correction...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through your father's reports. Let me discuss them here:
1. He has low serum iron levels which I feel may be nutritional cause (as your mother also has low iron level). I will recommend dietary changes to include iron rich diet.
2. He has borderline amylase elevation. In absence of previous pancreatic illness, I wouldn't be overly concerned with this value. However this test may be repeated couple of weeks later.
3. He also has border line calcium deficiency; but not significant. Nutritional correction should suffice.
4. Creatinine values below 1.5mg/dl is considered normal by most clinician. So there is no need to be worried about his value.
5. Low vitamin D level is common among Asian citizen. There is no active intervention needed.
6. Elevated eosinophil differential count is not significant as his absolute eosinophil count is within limits.
In all, there are no alarming features noted on the lab reports. Nutritional correction is recommended. And amylase values may be repeated few weeks later.
Hope this helped.
Regards

Meat, millets and spinach are XXXXXXX source of iron...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. Some food are very rich source of iron. I recommend my patients to consume plenty of meat, liver, millets (ragi) and spinach. These are extremely good source of iron. As his hemoglobin value are within normal range, I don't see a real need for oral iron pills. But if needed, he can be started on iron pills such as ferium XT under supervision of his treating doctor.
2. Medical science has taught us to treat the individual patient and not reports. Accordingly if he is asymptomatic, I will not be overly worried about serum amylase level. It can be repeated after a few weeks. If they continue to rise, he will need further evaluation under gastroenterologist.
3. His current medications has no effects on his blood reports. I will suggest him to continue them as per his doctor's instruction.
Hope I answered all your questions. If there are no more questions, please close this discussion.
