Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I have been recently diagnosed with less then 50% blockage of my mid lad, with a cholesterol reading of 142 and ldl 77. As part of the follow up test I did a nuclear stress test where the doctor says I have a strong heart and great blood flow how worried should I be about the blockage, he did put me on 40mg of Lipitor.

Brief Answer:
For now, be relaxed and calm about it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these findings and all the disturbing thoughts that this has caused you. I will like to know what the reasons were for you to have your heart arteries being mapped out? Did you come down with symptoms of chest pain and heart disease?

The report suggests that there has been no compromise on the blood supply to the heart muscles. As long as this stays normal, there is no reason to get worried as every problem stems from reduced blood supply and not a blockage. For now, managing all risk factors of heart disease would be very helpful to help reduce the risk of developing progression of this blockage or increased risk of a possible heart attack.

Regular exercise, decreased lipid and oil consumption, maintaining a normal weight, eating healthy and sticking to your medications would be very helpful. No tobacco, minimum alcohol and management of any other disease conditions like hypercholesterolemia(lipitor is a good drug for this), or other conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Also, get well informed about the symptoms of a possible heart attack and what to do. Stay in touch with your doctor for regular assessments to make sure all is moving as planned and for early intervention if need be.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I have an Afib so sometimes get chest pain and have done stress tests in the past my doctor suggested the CT Scan to see if anything else was going on, I guess from looking at the tests some more they say I have a low calcium score and no restricted blood flow. My dad in his late 60's till his passing at 71 had to have stents so I like to be a little paranoid and proactive.I am over weight and did upon hearing of this issue stop smoking and went to a reduced e cig to help keep cigarettes away, which in time I should get off that also. Seems to me that the big thing is to lose weight, eat better food choices stay active walking and follow up with doctors and take the medicines. I appreciate your answers there greatly helpfull
