What Does CT Scan Showing Liver Hemangiomas Indicate?
Question: Hello I was diagnosed with skin melanoma on my abdomen in August 2014. I had 3 different diagnoses. One was just severely atypical, one melanoma in situ and one melanoma stage 1. I was having pain in my arm area by my chest so I had a ct scan done. It came back saying they didn't see anything in the area of my arm, but they saw 2 small spots on my liver that look like hemangiomas. They said repeat scan in 6 months to verify no changes. My questions are is this normal procedure even if there is a history of melanoma and can melanoma look like a hemangioma on a ct scan? Is it easy to mistake the two?

Melanoma metastasis and liver hemangioma has typically different characteristics and these can't be misdiagnosed.Don't worry about this.
Liver hemangioma are generally incidental finding and it is generally diagnosed when investigation is done for other purpose.
It typically shows enhancement of contrast in late phase which is typically not seen in other tumours.It is a benign tumour made up of blood vessels and generally only require follow up.
It may need surgical excision if there is some complications.
Whereas skin melanoma metastasis in liver may have variety of appearance.It is generally hypodense in appearance.
