Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: If my FSH level is 53.3 IU/L does it mean that I'm going through menopause?

Is there anything that I should try to take to prevent getting hot at night or during the day?

Brief Answer:
High FSH indicates menopause. Lifestyle changes, phytoestrogens.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1.     First of all do not panic.
I have gone through your report.

2.Usually, menopause is characterised by cessation of menses.
On an average, it appears between the age of 41 to 55 years.
It happens due to inability of ovary to form eggs anymore.
Along with age, other associated symptoms are also need to be considered.
Hit flashes, night sweats, palpitations, mood swings, dryness of genitalia etc. are the other few of the symptoms.

3. In your case, value of FSH is high. It indicates that ovaries are no more responsive to FSH for egg formation.

I would like to know , if you have stopped getting your periods, and since when?

4. Ideally, You need to adopt some lifestyle changes.
I will suggest indulging in a healthy diet and regular exercise regime.
Include plenty of fruits, salads, vegetables in the diet.
Have adequate water intake; say 8 – 10 glasses per day.
Avoid deep fried foods, bakery products, and refined sugars.
Avoid substance abuse, if any.

5.please seek your treating doctor's help to get phytoestrogen supplements.
This along with lifestyle changes will help to get relief from the symptoms.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
