What Does A PSA Test Result Of 8 Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2017
Question: I recently had my annual physical. My doctor said that my PSA test result was at 8 which was signficantly higher than two years ago. However, there were also white blood cells which led him to believe there was a high probability that I had a low level infection and that this could be the cause of the PSA rating. He examined my prostate and noted that it was not abnormal. He prescribed antibiotics for 10 days and then wanted another PSA test after that. The fact that I had been having some diarrhea seemed to fit with the infection also (now cleared up). During the visit he mentioned that I should not ejaculate during the period. I inadvertently forgot this and last night did ejaculate. It was also discovered that it appeared there was some blood in the semen. I've researched this and it may not be a big deal. I have taken 9 days of the antibiotic so far. But my concern is mainly around the issue of not ejaculating. I don't know the reason for this, but I assume it will have an impact on the PSA test I plan to have performed early next week. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Staying only 48 hours without ejaculating its enough

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

The reason why your doctor has asked you to not ejaculate is because ejaculation would increase the values of PSA falsely. I am sure he hasn't ask you to not ejaculate because of the antibiotic therapy.

Even though you don't need to worry. You just need to stay 48 hours without ejaculating before going to the doctor to measure next time the PSA.

Hope this is helpful.
