What Does A Boil On Scrotum Indicate?

Posted on Thu, 12 Feb 2015
Question: Hello Doctor, I have a boil on my scrotum for some time now. there is no rupture or pain as such. Neither does it grow. But it is still an irritant. Also my scrotum is quite itchy specifically after long durations with underwear on. Could you suggest what could be the issue and should I be worried about the boil and any medications that needs to be taken.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry ,sebaceous cyst

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached pictures .
You seem to have developed a sebaceous cyst over the scrotum.
Now such lesions are quite common over the scrotal area. In case there is no associated pain or discharge, these can simply be left on their own .
Only if there is any associated pain or discharge ,then a surgical removal of the lesions has to be considered.
So you need not worry and leave it as such ,it is a harmless skin lesion .

Hello Doc, Thanks for the update. There is no discharge and pain so I guess it can be left alone. However, one related question was with regards to the itchiness in the scrotum. Is there something that can be put or taken care of to stop/minimize the itchiness.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Itching over the scrotum could be due to mild superficial fungal infection causing eczematisation.
Apply candid b cream over the affected areas twice daily for seven to ten days .
Wear cotton undergarments so as to decrease sweating and prevent further infection.
