Brief Answer:
Check prostate status

Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Noted your concern. There are few possibilities.

1. URINARY tract infection: but I noted that your urinary examination was clear. So this is unlikely.

2. Prostate infection or prostate enlargement:
This can cause incomplete bladder emptying as well as frequent urination.

3. VERY rarely diabetic neuropathy can also cause frequent urination.

Please get an ultrasound scan of abdomen and urinary tract. Get a pre and post void scan. This will give an idea if there is urine left behind after each urination. Besides get a prostate examination and blood works for prostate as well.

Prostate enlargemnt even at 36 years of age?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Infrequent, but possible.

Detailed Answer:
very good question. As you rightly pointed out, prostate enlargement is more common in men over the age of 50 years. However, it is also seen in young people, mainly due to prostate infection or inflammation ( PROSTATITIS). One of the symptom of prostatitis is frequent urination. Pus in urine during microscopy examination may also be seen.

Brief Answer:
Urine examination

Detailed Answer:
Unlikely to be anything serious. However, ruling out prostate inflammation is important. Need to do a urine microscopy examination as well

Would this be picked up on a dipstick check?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (26 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Microscopy + Dipstick test

Detailed Answer:
Dipstick test will pick protein and red blood cells. Together with dip stick test, a microscopy of the urine centrifuge sediment also is required.

So if there was an issue then a dipstick would pick it up initially?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (3 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it would have picked up blood or proteins. However, dipstick can not pick up all cases of Prostate inflammation. Clinical examination followed by an ultrasound will give more clarity

Ok thanks. Can it be felt with the bsck passage examination
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (35 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
That would be appropriate

Detailed Answer:
Yes that is important. A per rectal finger ( back passage) examination by your GP or urologist will be good to pick up prostate enlargement and tenderness.

ok thanks. just had another urine sample and small amounts of protein was there . so this is a urine infection right?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (9 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Small amounts of protein can disappear

Detailed Answer:
Protein in urine could be from urine infection.Small amounts of protein ( trace) can be present temporarily occasionally which can disappear. This can not be considered abnormal if it disappears on a repeat examination.

Other causes of significant protein in urine are diabetes, hypertension and kidney diseases.
