What Does A Faint Line On A Pregnancy Test Indicate?
Question: god morning doc. due to thin endometrium I am on progynova 2mg once daily and duphaston 10mg twice daily and also taking folvite. my period is regular and cycle length is 29 days and period length 4 days. last cycle began on 30th november,2016 and stopped on 3rd december,2016. I am almost 31 years old now and ttc for last 9/10 months. My gynaecologist adviced me to start progynova from day 4 and duphastone from day 17 and to take hpt on 30th november,2016 and if the test shows negative no need to continue progynova and duphastone. My bbt chart shows that I ovulated on day 16th/17th (15th/16th december,2016). I had tvs on 17th december and it showed follicle as raptured already. Me and my hubby bd on 11th,13th,15th and 16th of december. I took hpt on 30th december,2016 early morning and a thin positive line came. I imformed my doc about that and he adviced me to continue progynova and duphastone. I've not felt any pgegnancy symptom yet. Now I want to know whether I should think positively about the thin positive line or not? Please help me .

Let me first address your last point.
You had your menses on 30th of November, 2016. Your menstrual cycle is of 29 days and regular. So your menses were expected on 29 December 2016. Performing urine pregnancy test (hpt) on 30th was too early. These tests are more reliable about a week after missed period; earlier they may report false negative or week positive, unless they are Beta hCG tests.
However, weak positive test needs serious follow up. Following are the common cases of weak positive hpt results:
1. If the test is done too early. This seems to be the most probable cause in your case. Please repeat the test after a week. Alternatively you may perform Beta hcg test on your blood. Values more than 25 mIU/ml are diagnostic of pregnancy while in non-pregnant state, the values remain under 5 mIU/ml. Please upload the results of Beta hCG test on your blood.
2. Ectopic pregnancy, where the pregnancy is implanted somewhere outside the uterine cavity - most commonly the tubes. Such pregnancy cannot grow and subsequently ruptures causing bleeding emergency demanding emergency surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion. Ultrasonography will give you some clues. If the sac is noticed in the uterine cavity, your pregnancy is normal. If the uterine cavity is empty in spite of (weak) positive pregnancy test, there are possibilities of ectopic pregnancy which needs to be investigated appropriately. Please report this to your Gynaecologist. Ectopic pregnancy diagnosed before rupture can be managed conservatively by medicines.
If this is not a pregnancy (which is very unlikely, as false positive results of hpt are not commonly reported), then I will advice you about your endometrium and the ovulation. Meanwhile, please inform me the thickness of your endometrium at the time of ovulation. Also, please note the size of the follicle before rupture . Please upload all the reports and images after which I shall advise you further.

Thank you Doctor for you advice. endometrium thickness on day 17 was >9 mm. I had one natural pregnancy on december,2015,but had to terminate at 12 weeks( february 14,2016) as I took some psychiatric drugs between october ,2015 to mid of january,2016. medicine was stopped when pregnancy was detected at 6 weeks. from april,2016 i'm ttc.

Please get Beta hCG test done and get investigated for Ectopic Pregnancy if your Gynaecologist feels so as he/she has examined you clinically. Please repeat the hpt test after a week.
