What Does A Hard Lump On Eyelash Indicate?
Question: Hi. I have a small hard lump on my eyelash line on both eyes. One on the top lid and one on the bottom. I have had them for a long time. They are not too noticeable but I don't like them. Can they be removed? and what are they?
Brief Answer:
Can be surgically removed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.
They could possibly be Chalazion, which is a common eyelid swelling in your age group.
It can occasionally arise from meibomian glands due to wide variety of reasons.
Its usually benign.
It can be surgically removed.Occasionally intralesional injection of steroids will help.
Post your further queries,if any.

If I were to get it surgically removed, what type of doctor would I seek? An eye doctor, a dermitologist or is there a specialist in this area?I have looked on line for a picture of a chalazion and it is nothing what my eye looks like. This is a clear, small, hard protrusion that is in the lash line on the upper in one eye and the lower in the other. It could be fluid filled it is hard to say. I have had it for over a year. There is no pain or swelling with this lump. No redness.
Both lumps are close to the outside of the eye. Would I consult my opthamologist?

Brief Answer:
Opthalmologist consultation is a mandate.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.
Chalazion is a lipogranulomatous cystic inflammation of the glands within the eye lashes. So it can have varied consistency.
For utmost results you need an eye examination under slit lamp biomicroscopy under expert guidance of your ophthalmologist.
Thank you.
