What Does A Lymph Node Under Armpit Indicate?
Please find details below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Lymph nodes are part of the protective immune mechanism present in our bodies and you might be aware of it. The lymphnodes usually enlarge whenever there is a disease process inside our body, mild or severe, and this tries to fight the disease causing agent.
A single lymphnode in the armpit region under 1 cm which has appeared suddenly in the last few days, growing in size each day and is painful most likely represents an acute infective state. This is not much of a concern but any infection in your neck and arms regions must be detected and treated with a short course of antibiotics.
On the other hand, if the lymphnode is painless and has been there for more than 15 days and slowly growing with or without symptoms like weakness, loss of weight, fever and cough, then it can become a serious concern and you must get your lymphnode tested and possibly even a biopsy might be required.
In both situations, consulting a doctor and getting early treatment is important.
Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.
If it is confirmed to be a lymphnode swelling then it is less likely to be associated with your periods. There might be some mild infection in the arms or breast which can cause such a lymph node swelling.
There is a rare possibility of accessory breast tissue that might be present in the armpits and this can be related to hormone changes during periods if happening regularly. This requires clinical examination to confirm.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
