What Does A Negative ELISA Test Result Suggest?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I have a serious concern regarding a incident happened to me, That i have visited a unhygienic clinic and i had a injection to nerve. I feared he might have given the injection through used needle. Fear of that i consulted a doctor and he told me to get it tested after 3 months and the test done was ELISA it was negative. But after browsing some blogs it was said that it will be conclusive after 6 months. And even i have done the test in the period of 5 months (Enhanced CLIA) in Apollo Clinics and and it was also negative and i repeated it again after 6.5 months in a CARE hospitals (enhanced chemiluminescence hiv test) and it was also negative. And also i have consulted a doctor and he told no need to worry as 6 months is ample time to get is tested and nothing to worry. But yesterday i have noticed a clinic who was HIV specialist and he told me to get test with high end HIV test and also told that it may extend to 9 months to 12 months to get conclusive and he asked me to get tested with a high end test which cost around 3500 which is a western blot test, but i had a doubt that i have visited a reputed hospitals and they all told it is 100% conclusive and nothing to worry. But this guy confused me i again i am having a traumatic experience. I suspect that the doctor may have told me for his commercial interest to get money from me. Please suggest me doctor whether i need to get tested again or not, whether my tests are conclusive or not.
whether the Enhanced CLIA and Enhanced Chemiluminescence test is same as ELISA whether these tests are mordern enough to rule out
You are 100% free from HIV infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
First of all, re-usage of syringes and needles are almost obsolete unless you had received anything from a quack.
Yes you are correct. That doctor who suggested to have another test is trying to exploit you.
In normal circumstances the widow period for any HIV antibody based test is
6-8 weeks only, rarely it may be extended up to 12 weeks in some individual. The results will be conclusive by end of 3 months following the exposure. Further tests are not at all necessary.
If the individual is on any immuno-suppressive drugs like steroids, cyclosporin or antimetabolites or in case he tried PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) with ART drugs, there is a chance for delayed antibody formation. This delay also never goes beyond 6 months.
So your tests are final and conclusive. You are absolute free from HIV infection beyond any doubt. Forget about this possibility.
Your tests are (CLIA, Chemiluminescence) very much advanced techniques and not to have any suspicion about the results.
